Welcome to Ishmael's Music Club!

This is not an independent record label. This is not an MP3 blog or an filesharing site. Rather, Call Me Ishmael Recordings is an itty-bitty not-for-profit operation run by a rock music fanatic who gets a perverse thrill out of sharing rock music playlists with his friends. You can learn more about the history of CMI Recordings by clicking here.

Click around the CMI Recordings catalog of mixtapes and mix CDs and check out the track listings and witty liner notes for dozens of mixes. You will also find links to external sites devoted to some of Ishmael's favorite artists, all prominently featured on the CMI comps.

If you dig these artists, be sure to support them by buying their merch and seeing them perform live. If you stop paying them, they'll stop making music. Science has proven that recipients of Ishmael mixes often become rabid fans of the artists featured on the playlists, which is what this is all about!

Ishmael is aware that sharing personal mixes with friends is in the gray area of the "fair use" exception to copyright laws, and as such he wishes to express infinite gratitude to copyright owners that support the mixtape hobby. No money is exchanged when CDs and cassettes are distributed and links are shared! It's all about the music!
